Sweaty palms ? Corroding Horn? Then you need a hand-guard. Handguard nowadays cost a lot of money when purchased from an instrument retailer. Here is a cheap and easy way (just three simple steps) to make one yourself. At first, it will take quite long to make one, but after some practice, you can make one in 15 minutes flat. It makes a great gift to other fellow horn players as well. :)
Get a piece of leather, PVC, or some material that can withstand your hand acid and sweat for a reasonable period of time.( If not your horn might corrode under the guard) ( You can try denim too, It works + it is a fashion statement )
Cut the material into the shape given by the template below. You can either print it out or measure it out using the dimensions given. ( Note: the black dots are holes, you can cut 8-10 of them on each side - a belt hole puncher would be useful, also sew a piece of cloth on one side of it to absorb your hand acid)
Cut the little square at the base out and hook it into the little hook on the horn (the one to hook your pinkie) Use a leather string or even shoelaces to tie the guard to the horn - just like tying your shoes.
And that's all, 3 simple easy steps
Fashion Tip - You can design the guard with stickers or colours just to make it more attractive.
